Our Firefighter written examination contains approximately 100-150 questions in multiple choice format that cover a broad range of skills including:

  1. Memorization – listening to a scenario then answering questions about what you just heard without taking notes

  2. Basic Math -  test your knowledge of mathematics on a high school level. In a math knowledge test you are required to solve mathematical problems and answer questions regarding mathematical theory

  3. Mechanical Aptitude - measures your ability to understand and apply mechanical concepts and principles to solve problems

  4. Reading – read a passage then answer questions about what you just read

  5. Map Reading/Aptitude – spatial reasoning, ability to read a map and find location based on North, South, East and West

  6. Writing Section  - words that best complete a sentence; identify what is wrong with a sentence (spelling, grammar, punctuation); synonyms

  7. Human Relations Section – most appropriate and least appropriate response to a basic fire-related human relations issue/scenario

  8. Reasoning Skills – job related reasoning ability
